El otro día le regalé a nuestro compañero Raúl García Luna, por su cumpleaños, una Prixton PG100. Una consola que seguro que ha sido ensamblada y programada en China pero que aquí se vende como si fuera vasca. Y Prixton tiene otra, la PG200.
Pero no es el único que ha recibido una consola desconocida por la mayoría. Antonio López recibió en su día una magnífica Rove, también conocida como Vii, Zone 40, Zone 60 o V-Sports en otros lares. Realmente es una castaña de consola, pero no deja de ser una curiosidad.
Ayer, mientras paseaba por Valencia, entré en una tienda llamada Juguettos con la esperanza de encontrar alguna sorpresa relacionada con videojuegos. Y la encontré, porque resulta que Juguettos es la encargada de traer a España los productos de la empresa Conny Technology, como la interesantísima portátil M2, y la no tan interesante pero también portátil PDC.
Soy el primero en admitir que la mayoría de las ocasiones este tipo de plataformas que no gozan de seguimiento en masa por los medios especializados son de un nivel en general muy bajo. Pero, a la vez, hay dos razones por las que deberían tener cierta cobertura informativa. La primera: porque estos productos existen, y si son malos cualquiera preferirá que se lo digan, y así le ahorramos meter la pata. Y la segunda: porque soy un romántico, y con cada trasto dedicado exclusivamente a videojuegos que no pertenece ni a Sony, ni a Nintendo, ni a Microsoft, uno cree que van a innovar de alguna manera, van a ofrecernos algo distinto, e incluso puede que nos guste más.
Ya os digo que la Rove es un castañón infecto al que mejor no os acerquéis nunca. Pero muchos de nosotros conoceremos la GP32, una portátil coreana que en su tiempo tenía características superiores a las de la Game Boy Advance. Y desde entonces, cada cierto tiempo aparece una portátil coreana con características interesantes, aunque con una librería de juegos propios bastante escasos (de hecho, el caballo de batalla sobre el que se basan suelen ser los alegales emuladores). Después de la GP32 vino la GP2X, luego la Wiz, y en la actualidad tenemos la Canoo. Una consola que no sólo tiene emuladores, sino también su propia tienda de aplicaciones.
Otra consola interesante es la Dingoo, o debería decir las Dingoo. Consolas chinas en el límite entre lo legal y lo ilegal (porque una cosa es inspirarse en el diseño de otro producto, y otra es clavarlo), y que curiosamente tienen un sistema operativo basado en Linux llamado Dingux. El último modelo, Dingoo A380, es realmente nuevo, y la carcasa tiene un aire a la GameBoy Advance Mini, pero más grande. Curioso fue el caso de la A330, que en la página web parece una PSP, pero las que he visto se llaman Gemei, y no se parecen tanto a la PSP.
Con la llegada de Android es relativamente fácil realizar una consola portátil. Y eso es lo que ha pasado con ODroid. Básicamente, es un Android bastante potente (pero no el más potente en la actualidad) con teclas y pantalla táctil.
Pero si de cosas curiosas hablamos, creo que la palma se la lleva la Pandora. Un mini ordenador portátil, con un mini teclado QWERTY, dos sticks, un Linux, ideal para usar emuladores y juegos antiguos de ordenador. Un cacharro muy curioso, casi artesanal. Iba a aparecer una parecida desde Panasonic llamada Jungle, pero al final decidieron (y creemos que con razón) echarse atrás.
Pero si bien os he estado hablando hasta ahora de consolas actuales con una cierta potencia pero nada de catálogo propio, es interesante que le echéis un ojo a la página web de JungleTac. Una empresa china de 1999, creadores de la serie M-XXX de consolas, de la que seguramente la Prixton PG100 será un clon. Esperamos haceros una review de este trasto.
No quiero acabar el artículo sin hacer una mención a otras “joyas” como la PCP Station, Watara Supervision, Game.com, Gizmondo, o la Tapwave Zodiac (y nos dejamos castañas realmente profundas como la Popstation, que también fue regalada). Así que ya sabéis, si alguien os regala una consola que no conocíais, mimadla y dadle uso, tal vez os sorprenda positivamente.
Si algo puedo aportar es mi experiencia con la tienda de aplicaciones de Caanoo/Wiz.
Nació buggeada, con prisas, inutilizada. Y sigue igual. No se puede descargar nada desde ahí, pero bueno.
La idea era buena, muy seguro todo, pero fallaron a la hora de simplemente testear. Media plantilla despedida por ello :\
Yo tengo una GP2X y la verdad es que caso no la usé 🙁 las pilas se fundían como en una Game Gear.
Sólo me pasé en ella el Light Crusader, que al menos funcionaba bien (no como el de la consola virtual, que marea ir en diagonal, y es lo que tienes que hacer todo el rato!).
Por eso ahora me gusta tirar de lo de marcas con más nombre. Pena de Xperia Play y su precio… :/
Técnicamente el ODROID es el clon chino del Android. Le han quitado todo el software propietario de google y las referencias a los buscadores, etc… No solo lo hacen para ahorrarse licencias, así es más facil cumplir con ciertas especificaciones del gobierno chino.
Por cierto, que los OPHONES (móviles con s.o. ODROID) son bastante interesantes como modelos de entrada al mundillo del smartphone. Suelen costar una media de 200 euros y vienen con procesadores de gama media y pantallas chusqueras, pero doble sim, sintonizadora de televisión y radio, gps, wifi, bluetooth y por supuesto, aspecto de iphones, desires, n97s y cualquiera que sea el movil de moda.
@Abraham: Me corrijo. El Sistema operativo del Odroid es Android. El sistema operativo de los Ophones se llama igual… Es que había visto ophones con el mismo aspecto (aunque procesadores mucho más chusteros) que los que se ven en la página web.
Me cuesta ver como una plataforma de juego real cualquier consola que no permita ampliar los juegos disponibles más allá de lo que incluye de serie en su interior. Además, la mayoría de estas consolas no se molestan en mostrar en que consisten sus juegos. Timo.
Yo tengo una Caanoo y desde luego es una maravilla para “cacharrear”. Los emuladores van bastante decentes y esta abierta a hacer cualquier tipo de desarrollo.
Pero ahí, se queda, tener una salida comercial en un mercado de “tiburones” es imposible.
Yo tengo una Overtech OT-M146 PMP y he de decir que, si no fuera por la desastrosa cruceta que te provoca agujetas, podría ser hasta una portátil decente de bajo coste. También se mueve por el filo de la ilegalidad con los emuladores internos pero lo que me da rabia es que incluye un par de títulos de factura propia. Si alguien los programo ¿no sería una buena idea dar esas herramientas para que se retroalimente?. Total, no estás en el mercado de los videojuegos, no pierdes nada por liberarlo. Ahí está la GP32 y la GP2X, la mejor consola para el sector indie.
PD: Aaaahh, la Popstation. Como rezuma casposidad por su carcasa. Y como me jode que las maquinitas de toda la vida se vendan ahora con formas ultramodernas, copiándo a las consolas generalistas (he visto hasta microplaystation 2 con un par de mandos, ¿nos hemos vuelto locos?)
