Por si no os habíais dado cuenta aún, estamos surfeando en el mismísimo fin de los tiempos, todo se desmorona a nuestro alrededor mientras la cuenta atrás del reloj maya nos acerca inexorablemente hacia el día del Ragnarok. El tiempo se nos agota y mientras unos continúan su vida como si nada y otros queman cartuchos disfrutando sus últimos meses, algunos héroes se han embarcado en la misión de hacer inventario, de decidir y dejar un registro de aquello que más entusiasmó a la Civilización Humana para que seres de los eones por venir queden fascinados antes nuestra capacidad de generar cosas molonas. Desde hace meses ya hay medios impulsando consultas populares con el fin de conocer lo mejor que tiene que ofrecer nuestro planeta, El País, por ejemplo, descubrió con su ‘Guerra de Series’ que el mejor método para desentrañar cuál era show televisivo definitivo no era otro que enfrentándolos unos a otros en una estructura de octavos de final propia de cualquier campeonato deportivo. Un movimiento maestro que sólo era la punta del iceberg de un sentimiento colectivo mucho mayor y que el colosal Hematocrítico (junto con Noel Ceballos), en su aparentemente infinita capacidad de detectar pulsiones sociales profundas, ha llevado hasta el extremo poniéndo en marcha la ‘Guerra de Cosas’, formidable iniciativa que tiene como objetivo dejar claro de una vez por todas cuál es la cosa más molona que hayan visto los 4540 millones de años de la Tierra.
Estoy convencido de la necesidad de esta noble empresa y creo que deberíamos extenderla hacia todos los ámbitos posibles del conocimiento humano. No podemos llegar al 21 de diciembre de 2012 con cabos sueltos, con asuntos por tratar. Es por ello que, desde Videoshock, me gustaría aportar mi pequeño granito de arena a esta iniciativa y terminar con uno de los grandes debates irresueltos (¿irresoluble?, confiemos que no) del mundo de los videojuegos: ¿Aladdin de Megadrive o Aladdin de Super Nintendo? ¿Con cuál nos quedamos? Ni siquiera la poderosa Kotaku consiguió arrojar luz sobre esta cuestión. No es un asunto fácil pero nadie dijo que lo fuera a ser. ¡Es el fin de los tiempo, demonios! Las decisiones más duras deben ser tomadas sin demora. Hay que decidir, hay que trazar una línea en la arena y posicionarse. No valen las medias tintas porque sólo uno puede molar más que el otro y creo que es algo que debemos resolver entre todos aquí y ahora. Este será nuestro regalo al mundo.
Ambos juegos salieron a la venta en noviembre de 1993, ambos eran juegos de acción de desarrollo lateral con saltos y, como todo título que da el salto del cine al ocio digital, la lógica de la ficción fílmica se plega ante la lógica de la acción de un videojuego dando algunos resultados curiosos (situaciones que se resuelven en el film con una elipsis son excusa para fases completas en el juego, Aladdin blandiendo una cimitarra como elemento central cuando la película de Disney nunca muestra una escena semejante, personajes principales pasando a roles muy secundarios o la música reduciendo su importancia hasta convertirse en un elemento decorativo) pero aquí se terminan las similitudes. Para refrescar la memoria y para que todos nos encontremos en la mejor posición posible para votar será mejor que recordemos brevemente las singularidades, muchas de la virtudes y algunas de las pocheces de estos dos cartuchos que a tantas generaciones de jugadores han dividido.
Aladdin (Virgin Games y Disney Interactive Studios para Megadrive)
Desarrollado al alimón entre los estudios de Virgin y Disney, este título para la 16bits de Sega (que en origen iba a tratarse una adaptación de El Libro de la Selva) contaba con plataformas y con trampas que esquivar pero el énfasis estaba puesto en el combate. Aladdin disponía desde el inicio de la partida de una espada con la que enfrentarse a los enemigos que llenaban unos niveles enormes atestados de peligros, aunque si por algo nos desbarató en en su momento fue por un apartado técnico de quitar el hipo, con personajes y escenarios cincelados en hermosos píxeles que se diferenciaban poco (o nada) de sus réplicas en la gran pantalla, lo que no es de extrañar si tenemos en cuenta que los mismos animadores de la película trabajaron en los gráficos del juego, dibujando movimientos y personajes que posteriormente serían comprimidos dentro del cartucho mediante la técnica conocida como Digicel y que tan buenos resultados daría en, por ejemplo, Earthworm Jim. El resultado fue unas animaciones rápidas y fluidas que no sufrirían un ápice si las comparásemos con juegos bidimensionales actuales.
Los escenarios eran puros horrores vacui llenos de detalles y guiños hacia la película y era toda una delicia avanzar por ellos disfrutando con el alto nivel de sentido del humor que lo inundaba todo y del que carecía su espejo de Super Nintendo. Sin embargo, al otro lado de la balanza, su misma virtud era fuente también de algunos de sus principales problemas pues la sobreanimación de los personajes degeneraba en incómodos tiempos de respuesta en el avatar y, en lo que es peor, un sistema de colisiones confuso con un feedback ciertamente pobre.
Aladdin (Capcom para Super Nintendo)
Este fue uno de los últimos títulos que vieron la luz fruto del acuerdo que en 1988 alcanzaron Disney y Capcom para que la empresa nipona pudiera desarrollar y distribuir títulos basados en personajes y productos del estudio del ratón para las consolas Nintendo. El coincidir con una de las épocas doradas de la compañía de Osaka permitió que casi todos los títulos nacidos bajo el paraguas de este pacto fueran juegos situados entre lo notable y lo genial, con joyas del nivel de Duck Tales, Chip ‘n’ Dale, Goof Troop, Magical Quest, Who Frammed Roger Rabbit? o este Aladdin donde sorprende encontrar en sus títulos de crédito nombres como los de Shinji Mikami.
Si la característica del héroe del fez que subrayaba el juego de Megadrive era la de su habilidad en manejar espadas, el juego de Capcom pone el acento en sus capacidades acrobáticas, y con ellas construye un pulido juego de plataformas que tal vez no aportara grandes novedades, pero que todo lo que hacía lo hacía tan bien que no tendría demasiados problemas para colarse entre los títulos top del género durante la época de los 16bits. Mientras que en Megadrive la elasticidad y plasticidad propia del cartoon eran sólo visibles en su apartado gráfico, el juego de Capcom fue capaz de trasladar ese espíritu de dibujo animado a la jugabilidad con un avatar que se movía con mucho más salero y con mayor capacidad para interactuar con su entorno: balanceos, saltos, planear con una manta o rebotar sobre la cabeza de enemigos es más orgánico y satisfactorio que la mecánica experiencia que pudieron vivir los usuarios de Sega. Sus detractores, por el contrario, señalan con el dedo hacia un apartado gráfico que (aunque no ha envejecido mal) no era rival para la exuberancia del juego de Virgin y hacia un escaso nivel de dificultad que puede llegar a liquidar la noción de reto y, por tanto, desactivar gran parte del encanto del juego.
Ahora pensadlo bien, reflexionad y cuando creáis que los tenéis claro votad, pero no tardéis demasiado pues esto tiene que estar decidido antes de que alguien pulse el botón de encendido de Skynet. ¡El tiempo corre en nuestra contra!
MegaDrive, sin pensarlo. A pesar de sus fallos, sobre todo en las colisiones, el juego de MegaDrive es superior en la extensión de sus mapeados, la belleza de los mismos y la capacidad de introducirte en la película que quiere emular.
El juego de Capcom es un triste plataformas genérico, a años luz de otros juegos de la empresa (por ejemplo el brillante Magical Quest) y por debajo de otros títulos de la plataforma (Plok, por decir algo que salió en las mismas fechas)
Yo digo Game Gear. JA!. De los dos, me quedo con el de Megadrive. De Disney Capcom Quien engañó a Roger Rabbit. Y de Disney Forever con Castle of Illusion Megadrive. Que barbaridad.
El de MegaDrive, aún estoy traumatizado con la fase de la cueva, que era más dura que un bistec de buey.
Los dos!!, no puedo elegir… y el de Game Gear también, los Aladdin de la época son mi debilidad. El de Mega Drive es mucho más complejo, y mola, pero el de Super Nes tiene algo que te lo puedes acabar 30 veces y te sigue divirtiendo igual (y la música…, menuda música!).
Igual suena a seguir la corriente a las respuestas ya hechas, pero elijo claramente el de megadrive. Dios mío qué recuerdos. Y sí la fase de la cueva deja secuelas xD

No soy un hipócrita, jugué todo lo que pude al Aladdin de Megadrive, es fantástico, precioso, divertido pero tengo que ser fiel a mi memoria.
Aladdin de Megadrive no tiene un pijo que ver con la película, ni con el espíritu de la misma, esa espada es letal. Como adaptación es mucho mejor la versión de Super Nintendo y encima es un juego espléndido. Por lo que a mi respecta al de Mega le deberían haber puesto otro “skin” xD.

Buf, realmente no entiendo dónde está la duda! El de MD es tanto mejor que el de Snes que no tiene sentido ni compararlos, sin decir que el de Snes sea malo…
Aladdin era uno de los pocos juegos, junto a Sonic2 y GunstarHeroes quizás, que podían hacer sentir envidia a un usuario de Snes. Yo la tuve en su día! Y mi Aladdin acabó cambiado por un Actraiser. Qué gran cambio.
La versión de SMS era de lo mejorcito de esa plataforma,con Aladdin Sega se llevó lo mejor, de calle.
La versión de SMS estaba bien para esa plataforma pero era MUY pobre comparado con cualquiera de los otros dos, y si te digo la verdad me aburrió sobremanera. Lo tuve y fue una terrible decepción.
Yo también lo tuve y ne encantaba! Era variado, técnicamente espectacular y con una sificultad muy muy ajustada. En mi opinión de los títulos más destacables de la plataforma.
Tengo bastante reciente jugar a los dos, y sin duda me quedo el de Snes 🙂 Los sprites son mas flojos (sin estar mal), pero jugablemente ha envejecido mucho mejor y es mas ágil. El de MD se me hace muy tosco.
Y ya que hablamos de versiones portátiles, también tuve la de Game boy que pretendía ser un port de MD, con esos personajes contorneados con 1 pixel blanco para distinguirlos del fondo xD … lamentable.
Joe, yo sólo he jugado al de Mega y la verdad es que estaba guay, y las músicas y tal. Pero me acuerdo quedarme con la boca abierta con los videos del de Super, que cuando la tuve no llegué a jugarlo. Me acuerdo siempre de la comparación del malo final. El de super era super espectacular y el de mega no, pero vaya, yo jugué al de mega y me encantó.
Tendré que volver a ellos y aprovechar a jugar al de super.
Los tengo recientes porque en mi afán de quitarme la espina de no haber tenido consola de 16 bits los completé no hace demasiado, y me quedo de todas todas con el de Megadrive.
Pese a ser mas fiel a la película (un Al acróbata no violento), el de SNES me pareció un plataformas genérico en una consola con mucha competencia y muy superior, mientras que el de Megadrive me pareció rompedor, algo tosco en su control, pero rompedor.
Eso sí, ambos son patéticos comparados con el excelente juego que sacaron con el estreno de la película de “El Rey León”.

Usaré para dar mi opinión esa frase tantas veces repetida pero que aqui viene como anillo al dedo: La potencia sin control no sirve de nada.
Que no os ciegue el despliegue de medios de la version de Virgin para Megadrive (y pc mucho mas adelante). El juego de Capcom, dejando de lado fidelidad a la película en la que estaba basado, era un juego divertidisimo y como han comentado muchas veces antes, rejugable hasta la saciedad. Y sin tener unos gráficos brutales, era muy resultón, colorido y ha envejecido muy bien.
Lo de ser un fan acérrimo de la Super Nintendo es otro cantar.
