Por una razón o por otra lo cierto es que sin encontrarnos en la época dorada del género, donde todos los juegos requerían de un protagonista más o menos simpático, buenos saltos, y enemigos más o menos coloristas, en la actualidad se producen una cantidad de juegos de plataformas realmente sorprendentes. Eso sí, no todos consiguen salir del anonimato y “dar el salto” al gran público. Aunque hay juegos muy dignos, títulos que de haber sido sido lanzados cuando el género estaba en auge habrían logrado el estatus de clásicos, muchos de ellos en la actualidad pasan de puntillas por un mercado exigente y saturado.
Uno de estos títulos es Alien Spidy, un juego que ya lleva el suficiente tiempo con nosotros como para que las publicaciones más influyentes tengan una idea más o menos clara sobre él, y si bien aprueba, no lo hace con demasiada holgura. Una verdadera pena porque Alien Spidy es muy buen juego, pero tal vez su problema es ofrecerle tanto al jugador. Los críticos actuales parece que necesiten hacerlo todo bien para estar en paz respecto al juego que analizan.
De hecho Alien Spidy es original en una cosa. Comparado con un clásico actual como Super Meat Boy es más fácil de completar, pero es más difícil hacerlo perfecto. Esto es debido a su división interna en checkpoints cada poco tiempo, y hacerlos todos con una buena puntuación es lo que al final nos otorga sus logros y estrellas correspondientes. Lo normal es que consigamos superar la fase pero que hagamos una puntuación bastante desastrosa, sobre todo la primera vez.
Sin embargo un jugador como el que os escribe, que ni busca logros, ni el 100%, ni grandes metas, sólo un rato de diversión, se lo puede pasar pipa con un juego como Alien Spidy. Muchos críticos actuales necesitan que todo vaya bien al principio, y ahí si, resulta bastante difícil. Porque si bien la historia es lo de menos (nuestra araña alienígena quiere rescatar a su arácnida amiga), el juego aprovecha las posibilidades de este artrópodo para que no sólo salte sino para que también lance telarañas, y con estas se pueda balancear. La mecánica funciona pero exige de cierta precisión, un mínimo al que con las prisas para conseguir una buena puntuación no siempre llegaremos, ni acertaremos a la hora de lanzar la tela, o al saltar cuando nos corresponda y tal vez tampoco al volver a lanzar otra tela de araña. Entre esto, y que a veces el botón de salto no es tan sensible como esperamos, son comprensibles ciertas quejas, pero sinceramente, es un juego de plataformas ejemplar y muy bien pensado, con un diseño de niveles realmente divertido y trabajado, y una buena cantidad de posibilidades.
A lo largo de los niveles, además de saltar y esquivar trampas, debemos interaccionar o evitar interacciones con partes de escenario. Por ejemplo, alguien puede estar bloqueando nuestro camino, y deberemos tirarle una manzana encima para que se despierte. O ir con cuidado para que una avispa no corte nuestra tela de araña. Además se pueden usar una larga serie de objetos que serán imprescindibles para nuestra aventura, como pueda ser el de super salto, sin el cual no llegaremos a plataformas desde donde continuar la aventura.
Artísticamente el juego es una preciosidad y el único problema que tiene es que podría ser terrible y nos fijaríamos lo mismo, estaremos tan centrados en el diseño de las pantallas, en sus miles de trampas y en los power ups o bonus, que no nos fijaremos en los decorados o personajes. Pero ahí están, con sus simpáticas animaciones, la viveza de su fauna y flora, o los entrañables enemigos que encontremos en el caminar de nuestra araña, además de multitud de efectos de iluminación o fluidos que crean un cuadro pictórico realmente admirable.
En resumidas cuentas, Alien Spidy es un juego al que merece la pena echarle un tiento. Podéis probar la versión demo en Xbox Live Arcade, aunque se aprecia que podría tener más vida es en portátiles como Vita. Sin duda alguna hay que felicitar a sus creadores por las horas de entretenimiento (y en parte, frustración) que pueden provocar entre sus jugadores.
