Y una segunda, el riesgo que supone el crear algo más arriesgado que el competidor y no tener acogida en el sector.
Ha habido épocas destinadas expresamente a crear plataformas, o pasa pantallas, donde cada uno apostaba por su estilo propio. Las armas para destacar, estaban claras, jugabilidad y novedad. Un claro ejemplo son las sagas Mario y Sonic en su época dorada (8 y16 bits) donde cada uno apostaba por su estilo peculiar, y seguidos de éstos un derrotero de juegos tales como Aladin, El Rey León, Earthworm Jim, Donkey Kong Country, etc.

Juegos estipulados para ser jugados en grupo, títulos que nacieron posiblemente del género party – o fiesta en el idioma de Cervantes – donde lo importante no es jugar sino hacerlo bien acompañado.
Pero hay otros, muchos más diría yo, que nacieron para ser disfrutados en solitario. Los mismos que hoy en día sufren al ver como el sector crece y se dirige hacia la conexión red. No lo digo yo, el mismísimo Sakaguchi declaró recientemente que el género RPG o JRPG necesita un giro radical. ¿Los MMO? No sería lo mismo, necesitan de algo propio y hasta que no lo encuentren muchos seguiremos desencantados con las experiencias que ofrecen algunas compañías enfocadas más a exprimir burras.
Hay un género, uno en particular – y de hecho el objeto del artículo – que nació bajo una plataforma homogenea y que poco a poco ha ido creciendo durante los últimos años. El juego de disparos – ya sea en primera o tercera persona – ha sido el gran beneficiado dentro de la Generación HD. El antiguo sistema original del PC ha visto como en esta época está en auge y lo demuestran la mayoría de títulos que hoy en día van apareciendo.
Algunos han sido alabados por la crítica por ser los impulsores del género en consolas, otros por conseguir mimetizar el entorno con la experiencia del jugador creando un uno más que interesante. La mecánica es sencilla, avanzar y disparar, aunque durante los años se han ido introduciendo elementos de otros géneros – como puzles o QTE (Quick Time Events) – para generar otras experiencias totalmente diferentes.

Y menos mirando al futuro más próximo donde aparecen títulos BulletStorm, Gears of War 3 o Brink por citar algunos. Quizás la irrupción de algún que otro género, quizás el sandbox o el retorno de la aventura gráfica. Aunque ciertamente cuesta de imaginar que dicho género disminuya en influencia, ya que seguramente – como hasta ahora – se apueste más por la co-habitación.
Pero la pregunta es, ¿realmente hemos llegado al tope de dicho género o se puede innovar un poco más dentro de él? ¿Es el multiplayer la solución?
